Today I’m going to start a series of post talking about Business Objects the product offered by SAP to create Business Intelligence solutions. Let’s begin.
The first thing we need to do is to download SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Platform 4.0 SP2 free trial from here. We need to sign up to be able to download the product, after the registration process you will receive a temporary product key that you will use during the installation process.
Once downloaded the product we need to uncompress the rar files and execute the setup file located in .. \51041019_5\SBOP_BI_PLAT_4.0_SP02_ADD_WIN__32B_\DATA_UNITS\BusinessObjectsClient
At the beginning of the installation the setup will check the pre requisites components:
In the next windows is necessary to indicate the product key that was send to you.
Now you can select the language that you want to have available, you must considerer that the more language you choose the more the installation will take.
In my case I’m going to use SQL Server
Here you need to indicate the name and the port of the sever intelligence agent node.
And later on the Central management server port.
Now you need to specified the Administrator Password
At this point you need to indicate the Data Source Name that will allow us to connect to SQL Server. For this purpose you need to go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools and choose the ODBC Data Sources application and create a new System DNS using the SQL Server Native Client.
Once created you can select the Refresh button to see the new DSN. Also you need to specify a SQL user and its password and database name that you want to use.
The installation process will take a lot of time closely 4 hour.
Once the installation end you will be able to see the next product installed on your server.
